The department of health received yet another windfall from the generous Kathu Solar Park and Kumani mine. Kuruman hospital and Kagiso clinic received ten chairs, ten tables, five wheelchairs, five stretchers, 23 five rows silver steel chairs for the waiting room and eighty blankets for the wards donated by Kathu Solar Park (KSP) with the mine providing the sheets and blankets, paint and an audiology booth, a machine that tests the efficacy of ears.
Receiving the donations was the MEC of the department the honourable Ms Fufe Makatong on behalf of the institutions. As the donations landed, both KSP staff and that of the mine had to wear gloves cleaning the wards so that the new consignment could be used. The mine proceeded to the Batlharos Old Age Home to do a similar cleaning exercise as well as giving the snack-packs to the elderly occupants while the Kathu Solar Park proceeded to Kagiso clinic to donate similar items and do the cleaning.
Both organisations said that it was the way to honour and remember the good work that the iconic Mandela had done to the people and therefore they dedicated their 67 minutes working for the community as a symbol of national prayer for the hero. Before she left, the MEC toured the hospital with the donors led by the hospital manager Mr Martin Taolo Gaetsewe and his team.
She said that the gift to the institutions was closely befitting as government alone has a lot on its shoulders. The Kathu Solar Park officer Ms Jesmien Wapad said that the spirit of giving must be inculcated to bring organisations closer to the people and making their lives easier. Apart from celebrating the Mandela Day she believes a lot needs to be done to improve the standard of living of the local community
