Kathu parkrun recently achieved a huge milestone by turning 1 year old. This significant milestone was celebrated in style, coupled with a move to a new and beautiful route at the Kathu Perdeklub. Many people were on hand to see the launch and of course, take part in the parkrun. The parkrun has become a permanent fixture for many people in Kathu every Saturday morning.
On Saturday 6 October, there was a lot of anticipation and excitement regarding the new route for the parkrun in Kathu. There was even some time before the parkrun for a birthday song. There were drinks and cupcakes after the parkrun to celebrate the first anniversary.
It is hard to believe that Kathu parkrun was launched just last year. In the past year, the parkrun has grown from strength to strength, and there are now at least 1388 registered members in Kathu. The course is 5000m (5km) long and starts of Kathu Equestrian Club House. Depending on availability, marshals will be at critical sections of the route or signs will be in place to guide the runners.
The new route at the Kathu Perde Club has exciting twists and turns, with two loops that the runners must complete. Comments from many of the parkrunners indicate that they really love the new route, which is a considerable improvement from the old course. The new parkrun route is centrally located in Kathu and is easily accessible for parkrunners in and around the town.
A very big thank you to all the volunteers and everyone who was involved in helping the successful relocation of the Kathu parkrun. See you at our next parkrun, remember to walk or run at your own pace.
