
The MEC of Education, Martha Bartlett, on 04 January 2019, announced the 2018 National Senior Certificate results for the Northern Cape province.
A total of 9909 candidates completed the NSC Examination, of which 7264 candidates passed.
The Northern Cape recorded a pass rate of 73,3%, a decline of 2,3%
All districts recorded a pass rate above 70%
Namakwa 83.7% ZFM 74,6% JTG 73,2% Frances Baard 71,4% and Pixley Ka Seme 70,2%
Four schools recorded a 100% pass rate : Kimberley Girls High School ; Hopetown High School ; Hartswater High School and Vaalrivier High School.
The most improved school is Warrenvale High School in the Frances Baard district with a pass rate from 47,4% in 2017 to 95,5% in 2018.
1562 candidates obtained distinctions.
2589 candidates obtained bachelors passes.
The top three candidates in the province were Janneke Pienaar from Hoërskool Diamantveld in Kimberley, Olivia Fielding from Kimberley Girls’ High School and Alecia Brits also from Hoërskool Diamantveld High School in Kimberley.
The top 10 Northern Cape performing schools in the National Senior Certificate results were (in order of performance) Kimberley Girls’ High School, Hoërskool Hopetown, Hoërskool Diamantveld, Hoërskool Duineveld, Hoërskool De Aar, Hoërskool Namakwaland, Hoërskool Upington, Hoërskool Martin Oosthuizen, Hoërskool Noord-Kaap en Hoërskool Vaalharts.
