
A 48 year old jealous lover from Upington was sentenced to 25 years direct imprisonment after he was found guilty of killing his 58 year old girlfriend in April 2017.
This is after a domestic violence incident was reported to the police on Sunday 30 April 2017 at about seven o’clock in the evening. the police went to the scene and found a 53 year old coloured female lying in her bed, struggling to breathe after she was severely beaten by her lover the previous night.
The police then conducted an investigation at the scene and followed up on the information they received that led to the discovery of a panga and a knife suspected to have been used in the assault of the lady while her lover, Henkie Cloete was nowhere to be found.
A case of murder was registered by the police after Susan ‘Kankan’ Abel was declared dead at the scene and it was given to Detective Sergeant Clive Maasdorp for further investigations.
The accused was swiftly arrested on Thursday 04 May 2017 in Upington. He was found guilty of murder by the High Court sitting in Upington on Tuesday 29 January 2019 and was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment on 5 February 2019
