Fatal accident on N14 Kathu police are investigating a case of Culpable Homicide, following a fatal accident which claimed the life of a motor cyclist. The incident happened on Saturday evening 2 March2019, on N14 near Kathu. It is alleged that the cyclist rear ended a Toyota Fortuner, and died as a result of injuries. The investigation continues.
Weapons confiscated at school. The Danielskuil and Postmasburg SAPS with the local Community Policing Forum, the School Governing Body and the Department of Education held raids and safety talks at a high school in Danielskuil, for the past three days. Police addressed school safety in the talks and also did random searches at a Danielskuil High School and confiscated several knives and dangerous weapons. The raids will continue on a random basis especially as a 20-year-old male scholar from the school and another 23-year-old man was stabbed to death during an altercation between two groups at a night club on Saturday(23/02) evening. Police arrested two male suspects who should be appearing in court today. The SAPS shall continue to strengthen relationships with the Department of Education, NGO’s and the community to ensure that safety and security is prioritised and the culture of learning on the school premises is not compromised. Police will therefore carry on with random unannounced school raids to address the issue of drugs and dangerous weapons at schools.
Another counterfeit factory closed Exactly seven month later, after Hartswater K9 Unit hit down on a counterfeit factory in July 2018 subsequent to be found illegally producing or manufacturing food products, which included instant yeast, baking powder, sanitary towels, shoe polish and seasoning spices. Once again on Thursday, 28 February 2019, Hartswater K9 Unit, in joint operation with Brand experts pounced on two suspects aged 41 and 42, found busy packaging counterfeited yeast. The Hartswater K9 unit received information regarding illegal packaging and distribution of counterfeited yeast into the market from Hartswater. Upon investigation and search on the premises of the suspect, high quality machinery which are instrumental in packaging and branding of counterfeited yeast products were found inside an operational storage room. K9 unit confiscated counterfeited yeast worth R2 million including packaging and branding machinery. Among the suspects, one was arrested in July 2018, for the similar offence in Hartswater. He was released on bail. The South African Police Management condemned these kind of illegal operations, where counterfeited goods are being produced and distributed. The illegal production and distribution of counterfeited goods not only endanger the health of the citizens, but continue to cripple the economy of the country. Both suspects are set to appear before the Hartswater Magistrate’s Court on Monday,04 March 2019 on charges of possession, manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit goods.
Escapees re-arrested The police in Pampierstad have re-arrested two suspects who escaped from Pampierstad police holding cells. The two awaiting trial prisoners, Oageng Sehemo(21) and Thembile Lawrance Fuba(28) escaped between 20 and 21 February 2019. They were arrested for burglary at a business premises. Oageng Sehemo was arrested on 28 February Hartswater by an off-duty police sergeant. Sergeant Kagiso Gaebee of Pampierstad placed himself on duty when he saw the escapee. The other escapee, Thembile Fuba was arrested at Thagadiepelajang settlement in Hartswater after information from members of the community. The Station Commander of Pampierstad, Luitenant Colonel Morebodi thanked members of the community for the invaluable information which led to the re-arrest of the escapees. He also thanked Sargeant Kagiso Gaebee for placing himself on duty in ensuring that the escapee will be brought to book. The escapees are expected to appear before the Pampierstad Magistrates Court on Monday, 04 March pending further investigation.
