In what could be one of the hardest things for an athlete to do both financially, physically and psychologically, 53 years young Desire Armstrong did three half marathons in seven days in different towns (Wally Hayward in Centurion, Robor Scaffolding in Benoni and MiWay cradle of humankind in Krugersdorp and on the eleventh day went on to do 10km at Die Oog fun in Kuruman.

Desire Armstrong or Granny as the SAC athletes will call her, is a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2.

Her journey started all blurry on a back road, living in Kathu where there is nothing to do except to drink alcohol. She one day decided to throw the glass away and get her life together and join the gym.

They say when you do good you attract great things. At the gym she met up with athletes from Sesheng Athletic Club, who introduced her to running. She started with the Parkrun with her sister at Navil Hill, and was caught by the running bug that moved from 5km to 10km and later 21km. With the help of the SAC coaching staff who motivates her on running etc, it has been helpful.

In her lifetime she was involved in two major accidents of which the doctors said that she will never walk. With the help of God as she, says she proved them otherwise.

Granny, the child of God, is seen at running events wearing the SAC green and white colours with her sister pushing each other to the finish. Athletes who see them say that they look like running speed queens

Her dream is to see everyone who has gone through the black road to see light and conquer fear, move mountains or run over them as in the case of runners.

As a proud member of the Sesheng Athletic Club, grateful for everything the team members have put into her upbringing and success as an athlete, she wishes to see everyone who is most vulnerable and in the black road join the team and win a medal, with Sesheng Athletic Club, victory is imminent.

Play Safe, Live Safe, Be awesome.
