Sishen donates equipment to assist the Gamagara local municipality with service delivery
Water challenges due to burst pipes have been some of the recent challenges the Gamagara local municipality and the Kathu community have experienced. To assist the municipality with these challenges, Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen mine donated a tractor loader backhoe (TLB) worth R1 537 000 to the municipality.
The donation was made possible after the municipality approached the mine for support with some of the challenges they face. “The donation demonstrates our commitment towards the Gamagara municipality and the broader community. We look forward to continuing the collaboration with the municipality to ensure the needs of our communities are met. We believe the donated TLB will make a world of a difference in ensuring the water issues are addressed with ease,” said Andrè Roux, Sishen mine’s General Manager.
“We thank the mine and its management for this donation. It will assist us immensely in fixing the burst pipes and other future issues. This piece of equipment has a larger engine and will allow for effective and efficient service delivery. It will also save us time and costs, as we would not have to procure and pay for external equipment,” said Gamagara local municipality’s mayor, Edwin Hantise.
The TLB is a versatile, multi-purpose machine which is used to dig the earth and load up materials such as rubble and sand. Being lightweight, it is easily able to move around on its own and if need be, it can move faster than its bigger, bulkier counterparts.
