Making a difference in the community

By looking past their own needs, two learners enrolled at High School Postmasburg recently moved outside their comfort zone to make a difference in the community.
Maylene Losper (17) and Denise Besnaar (16) recently founded the D&M Foundation to help several girls at their school with sanitary pads. Denise excitedly recounts that during the lockdown they saw the need of so many people due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and tried to help. Without a registered business or business plan, they approached local businesses to help in their efforts. Medwise Pharmacy gave sanitary pads that were handed out to girls at their school on Friday. Shoprite in town helped with food parcels that D&M Foundation handed over to needy families on Saturday 5Desember. Each recipient was very grateful, and it was really touching to make a difference, Maylene said.
Both Maylene and Denise excitedly tell that they realised through this that not everyone is as fortunate as they are and that they realised the value of giving through this venture. Regardless of our age, we decided to help Postmasburg make a better place to others.
D&M Foundation thanks the two sponsors, their teacher Miss Carlynne Julies, principal Mr Danny Smith who gave them the space to make a difference and be able to roll out their business acumen at school. They also thank all their friends who helped in their effort.
