Local gospel choir scoops award
Music is a pain killer, unifier and a comforter, while at the same time, teaching us about the conservation of our cultures and traditions.
The John Taolo Gaetsewe Gospel choir keeps the candle alight as it scooped yet another prestigious award in the hub city of music, Johannesburg, on December 20, 2020. The choir received the best Amadodana Group Award category in the Dibela Pitseng Music Awards competition.
This world competition in a giant city is by no means a joke and those participating in it ought to have rehearsed to the last stanza to convince adjudicators.
In an interview with the Kathu Gazette the choir project coordinator, Mr Isaac Ditlhase, said that the competition was tightly contested. However, the depth of their practice prior to the great day gave them the conviction that they would emerge with something in their grasp.
“With so many choirs involved in the race, honestly nobody ever guessed what would favour the outcome, because every group was well-prepared for the stage. What we know as a choir, is that singing generates revenue and that there ought to be consistency in practicing to meet the standards. The other thing of importance is that we are getting great support from our local corporate community and a good example is Leach Toyota who has supported us all the way, and our media sponsor, Kathu Gazette.”
Asked about the future of the choir, Mr Ditlhase said that there is no going back because the singing of gospel music is to the audience as good as preaching the Word of God in church. He also conveyed words of appreciation to the entire region for their unwavering support and encouragement.
Gottfried Leibniz, one of the greatest authors said, “Music is the pleasure the human mind experiences from counting without being aware that it is counting.”
