A prayer for Covid-19 vaccine

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has landed in hot water for his controversial prayer for the Covid-19 vaccine late last year.

It was in his closing prayer that raised a few eyebrows of the political landscape, faith-based organisations, and the public at large. Mrs SG Andrias asked six women from different churches in Olifantshoek to gather at a historic mountain of Ditloung in July 2020 to plead with God to give guidance to scientists to discover a cure or at least a vaccine for Covid-19.

On 31 January 2021 Mrs CC Kassoma and Mrs KM Phuti from the Roman Catholic Church, Mrs MM Lelaletse from St Apostolic Church of Zion, and Mrs SG Andrias from U.C.C.SA ascended the very same mountain in Olifantshoek to express their deepest gratitude in prayers and benedictions to the Lord for directions He provided to the elites in the medical fraternity for the discovery of a vaccine for Covid-19. They also wished a speedy recovery for those who are suffering at the hands of this ruthless pandemic and also prayed for the bereaved for sincere condolences.

The religiously oriented women adhered to and observed the strict regulations of Covid-19 set by the WHO and South African government. “We came here to thank the Lord for a vaccine of Covid-19 and to pray for those who are caring for the sick. It takes a kind and selfless heart to care for those who are sick. We are also here to pray that our almighty God would be their source of rest, their source of replenishment when weary, and their source of hope in such overwhelming times” said Mrs SG Andrias. She added that they pray God will protect those with a hedge of protection against the germs of the coronavirus and help those who are risking their lives to be protected as they nurse others back to health. MA Andrias thanked the Lord for giving us the vaccine to combat the strides of Covid-19, she said people should stick to the regulations of Covid-19 such as sanitizing, social distancing, and wearing a mask to curb the spread.
