Community Development Welding Training
BME has implemented a Community Development initiative as part of its Corporate Social Investment strategy. We are currently training 30 community members on a 5 days Welding Course to equip them with a skill which can help them to find employment or start their own small business. All the training is done by MMTI. They will be given full PPE, welding machine and some tools used during the training. They are also trained on finances with the aim of making an awareness on what to expect when doing invoices etc. The aim is to make a positive impact in their lives for them to become more marketable. Following this we will arrange a SMME Development workshop where they will be trained in details on e.g. company registrations, quotations, invoicing, vat registration etc.
The plea is for the government to take it from where BME has started to then develop them further or give them formal qualifications in this field. They should approach companies specialising with steel or boilermaking both formal and informal. The request should simply be to gain more experience in welding. Companies willing to give such may not necessarily be in a position to remunerate the learners.
Any companies interested in similar training in the Kathu region can contact Koos Kruger from MMTI Kathu at kruger.koos@mmti.co.za
