Curb the spread with STI-Condom Week ‘21

From 12 – 16 February 2021 it is STI/Condom Week, here is information regarding STI/Condom Week: In South Africa, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a big problem, even though most of the infections can be cured.

The fear of being stigmatised is one of the many reasons why people are reluctant to seek medical treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

STI/Condom Week is aimed not only at reducing the spread of STI but also to curb the spread of HIV and AIDS.

STI (sexually transmitted infections) is an infection transmitted through sexual contact, caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites.

Most common types: Human papillomavirus (HPV) – An infection that causes warts in various parts of the body, depending on the strain. Genital herpes – A common sexually transmitted infection marked by genital pain and sores. Chlamydia – A common, sexually transmitted infection that may not cause symptoms. Gonorrhoea – A sexually transmitted bacterial infection that, if untreated, may cause infertility. HIV/AIDS – HIV causes AIDS and interferes with the body’s ability to fight infections. Syphilis – A bacterial infection usually spread by sexual contact that starts as a painless sore.
