The John Taolo Gaetsewe Farmers’ Union received office equipment from Kumba Iron Ore Company on January 27, 2021. The equipment that includes two office desks, two swivel chairs, ten rickstacker office chairs, two laptops, office cabinet and one printer.

The donation was received by the affiliate union Rainbow Farmers Union members chaired by Mr Danny Assegai who will be sharing the offices based in Seodin. The offices also a blessing from the Department of Agriculture are meant to stimulate farmers in their pursuit to run farming activities in an organized way as well coordinating membership. Speaking to Mr Assegai at their new offices he said that both unions are determined to make sure indigenous farmers take farming seriously to eke a living.

“Our unions have a growing membership and have shown accelerated enthusiasm to turn land as a source of income.  Apart from tilling the land, many of us have resorted to livestock farming and there are promising prospects that emerging farmers real want to take their projects seriously for the benefit of the community and the economy.

We had a serious challenge because we did not have an office and the equipment to use. As unions we initially approached the department to assist us in the provision of offices and it offered us this spacious building. It was then that we took another step by aimed at furnishing the office and Kumba came in to our rescue. We can conduct meetings and training sessions in these offices. We really appreciate the support that we received from both the department and the mine”.

Appreciating the good gesture from Kumba, Ms Jarvis, Mr Assegai, Ms Mereeotlhe and Mr Segano from Rainbow Farmers Union an affiliate member of JTG farmers union after receiving the office furniture.
