Lesedi Power Project partnered with Kgatelopele local municipality, identifying the need for containerised retail space for informal traders in Daniëlskuil and thus embarked on a project that sought to provide a secure, accessible and affordable infrastructure.
Lesedi has committed to enterprise development within 50 km radius of the PV solar project site. Their commitment is to develop small businesses through mechanisms such as the provision of infrastructure, mentorship and coaching programmes, skills development, capacity building and equipment. The aim of these initiatives is to ultimately grow the local economy and to create additional jobs and economic streams within these rural communities.
The project aims to support small businesses and to facilitate their mainstreaming into the local economy. Communities will be able to reach their local entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to transition to strong local businesses in the area.
The Daniëlskuil Traders Hub will house the following stores : A take-away, a hair salon, a barber, a tailor, a traditional clothing shop, a beauty shop, a juice den and a laundry.
The new traders hub was officially launched on Friday 078 December 2018.
