The Sesheng Athletic Club’s athletes conquered the big Comrades in what is said to be the toughest Comrades Marathon route, the Comrades Marathon up run.
They took on the 86,83km route from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, the team represented by Tshepo Thipe, John Seretse, Godfrey Ngonyama, Oby Buys, Masilo Letsoalo, Robert Mohlahlo, Simon Bos, Thabang Mabote, Harold Sebuseng, Neo Lorekang and Sello Mabeba. Travelling companions and training partners from other teams: Innocent Thameng, Joby Taylor and Lebogang Shovhote.
In the team they had both experience and novices, the team collected 9 medals overall. Silver Medal; 6 hours to sub – 7 hours 30 minutes: Tshepo Thipe (Bill Rowan) (8:24:54) were the fastest in the team, Phemelo Harold Sebuseng (Robert Mtshali) (9:29:29). One of the novices, who is also one of the many runners in Kathu who started running Kathu Parkrun 5km Thabang Mabote, started actively running in 2016 after he quited playing soccer, he then replaced it with running to keep fit. He says he started his Comrades journey in December 2018 to ensure that he will be fully fit for the ultimate human race.
The Sesheng Athletic Club could like to thank the families of the athletes for making sure the athletes are up and running as early as 4am for training, the colleagues and employers who support the athletes and all other support systems that made this happen. The Club is hoping to have more athletes join in the Comrades Marathon Frontline next year. Play Safe, Be Safe, Be Awesome
A very special Thank You to Dr Makelana for sponsoring the Comrades trip, Sesheng Athletic Club appreciate your generosity.
