Gamagara appoints new chief financial officer

The position of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) became vacant at Gamagara local municipality (GLM) when the then CFO, Mr Moses Grond resigned before the end of his contract for greener pasture elsewhere in South Africa.

The Department was then driven by Mr Senatra Letshabo in an acting capacity until the end of December 2020. Both gentlemen served this institution diligently to best of their ability to ensure accountability and improvement of good governance.

It is with great excitement that the Council of GLM announces to the public the appointment of the brand new talented CFO, Mr Aobakwe Makoku CA(SA).

Mr Makoku hails from the small village Tsineng in the Joe Morolong area of jurisdiction. He was identified by the John Taolo Developmental Trust when he completed his matric and was fully funded for his studies at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, as JTG Development Trust viewed his particular field of his study and career choice as some of the rare and needed skills in the district and province.

Mr Makoku as a duly recognised member of the South African Institution of Charted Accountants (SAICA) brings a mixture of multi-disciplinary skills and knowledge in finance, auditing, private sector and public sector organisations, both nationally and internationally.

As a former manager at Deloitte South Africa, he served a secondment stint with the Deloitte USA office and amongst his client base in South Africa he had major mining clients, logistics, government departments and also the ruling party ANC (Luthuli House) audit was under his lead as audit supervisor.

His recent assignment before returning home was the CFO of the now defunct Bidvest Wits University Football Club as a subsidiary of the giant Bidvest Group.

The Council wishes him well with his new responsibilities at the institution to steer the ship and finances of GLM into the right direction. The council also assures him a competent team of colleagues with experience in the finance department who will be assisting him to ensure an accountable, compliant, competent department and subsequently a financially sound institution.
