
On Saturday 12 January 2019 Kathu Cricket Club had a winning start to 2019!
Both Kathu I and Kathu II produced good performances in all departments to ensure victory in both matches.
Kathu I vs Kathu II played at Kathu High School. Kathu, I won the toss and sent the scholars in to bat. The scholars never seemed comfortable against the experienced bowling from Malcolm Erasmus and Hilton Duimpies. The same pair then made light work of the run chase after losing two early wickets.
Kathu High School – 74 all out: Stephan De Klerk 30, Malcolm Erasmus 4/20 (8.2), Hilton Duimpies 3/19 (7).
Kathu I – 75/2, won by 8 wickets: Malcolm Erasmus 38*, Hilton Duimpies 21*, Darren Coetzee 1/15 (3).
Man of the Match: Malcolm Erasmus & Hilton Duimpies work their contributions with both bat and ball. Showing the youngsters how to play the game. Class was in session.
Kathu II vs Progress was played at Kathu Cricket Club. Kathu II won the toss and elected to bat. They posted a very competitive 216/7 in their 45 overs. The good start Progress had to their innings came to an abrupt end with the spin of André van Schalkwyk, producing his best figures for the Club.
Kathu II – 216/7, won by 103 runs: Herman van Niekerk 53, Dewald Van Vuuren 33, Eaghan Coetzee 30, F. Wildebees 2/33 (7).
Progress – 113 all out: Wendell Heradien 25, André van Schalkwyk 6/29 (9), Herman van Niekerk 2/38 (9).
Man of the Match: Herman van Niekerk for his batting and bowling performances. Also for looking a lot like the Proteas bowler Duanne Olivier.
Kathu Cricket Club would like to thank both opposition teams for the matches, was played in good spirits. Good luck with the rest of the season. The next game will be on Saturday 19 January 2019 against Wrenchville at the Kathu Cricket Club.
