During the NMA/ISKA South African championships, held in Stellenbosch on 29 and 30 September 2018, 36 students of Kalahari Mixed Martial Arts Academy, showed their steel and won 27 gold medals, 25 silver medals and 36 bronze medals. (Daniëlskuil Mixed Martial Arts club excluded – to follow.)

 

With over 1200 competitors and various martial arts styles, makes this prestige championships the biggest of all in South Africa.

 

Bronwyn van den Heever of Kathu won 8 gold medals and 1 silver medal which make her the best performer during the championships. Congratulations Bronwyn.

 

Angelo da Silva and his sister Jessica da Silva took the audiences’ breathe away with their perfect weapon form performance to won the synchronized forms. Well done you two.

 

We also won 5 absolute grand champion trophies. Jessica da Silva won both the kumite and the forms grand champion trophy, Angelo da Silva the forms trophy, Janika van der Westhuizen from Danielskuil the kumite trophy and Mar-Louise Pretorius the open ladies kumite trophy.

 

All students who came 1st to 3rd qualified to represent South Africa during the US/ISKA Open World championships in June/July 2019 which will be held in Orlando, Florida – USA.
