Meetings held from July 21, 2018 with the community policing forum (CPF) and the community in Mothibistad, where the provincial police commissioner General Peter Shivuri, cluster commander Johan Bean and station commanders of Kuruman, Mothibistad and Batlharos yielded positive results, lead to the visit by the Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi, on August 03, 2018.

The three stations, said General Bean, make a synchrony in their operations to combat crime in the area, hence the meetings regarding logistics bring them together for a common cause.

The arrival of the deputy minister led to the final conclusion that the Mothibistad police station must be upgraded in twofold. The structure has been deemed not ideal and plans are afoot to construct a better station.

The station also lacks resources – both human and material. Meetings had been held earlier with the provincial commissioner regarding the shortfalls of the station. The commissioner then escalated the matter to the MEC of Transport & Liaison Lebogang Motlhaping who eventually took the matter further to the minister. During the meeting with the deputy minister it was finally resolved that the station must be revamped.

The community had prior put in the proposal saying that the station and particularly the detective section, was failing them in service delivery.

The deputy minister also announced the upgrading of the station from Lieutenant Colonel in charge to full Colonel status, which automatically elevates the station in terms of members and operations resources. The deputy minister said that, as a matter of protocol, he will take the matter to the minister.

The provincial commissioner, however, advised the personnel at the station to manage the present station accordingly while resources are being procured for the building of a structure. General Shivuri hinted that, despite a limited budget at his disposal, a new fleet of vehicles would be purchased for the three stations.

General Bean concluded by saying that he appreciated the new developments taking place in his cluster.
