KuraraFM chairperson resigns
Victor Mulangisi
One of the humblest of personalities, Mr Patrick Mocumi, has resigned from KuraraFM as board chairperson. The decision was taken on his own accord.
The veteran educator was elected in June 2015 to run the affairs of the station. This, he did with due diligence. Under his stewardship, the station was mandated to realign the constitution that governed the running of the station within three months with the blessings of ICASA.
Indeed, Mr Mocumi succeeded to resuscitate a terribly indebted radio station during the time and by applying his expertise to restore its operational fortunes. Again, staff morale was at its lowest ebb with their stipends paid inconsistently. This had a direct negative impact on the production line. As a new board by then it sought for new strategies to turn around the crisis into half glory. He leaves the station with an indelible mark of tangible successes on his chest.
It was after the expiry of his term that he decided to quit the chairmanship so that he could pursue other engagements with less pressure. A member of the royal family, Mr Mocumi was chosen by the chieftaincy to utilise his history-teacher experience in the development of the royal village. “As a chairperson I was deployed several times to other radio stations and communication fora so that we could come up with better ways to bring the station to where it is today. Funding was revoked in 2012
by ICASA due to financial indiscipline and as a new board we had to ensure the station was out of the doldrums. During the period we acquired new studio equipment, two clean audits, capacitated staff through Wits Radio School, staff obtained radio production diplomas through SETA funding and many achievements were realised during the period. It in this spirit that I feel my contribution needs more new ideas to keep the station in a buoyant state.
