The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) held a successful elective conference on June 17, 2018 at Bosa Lodge in Kuruman. The conference was attended by thirty two of the thirty-six branches in the region. In an interview with the regional chairperson Mr Phenyo Ohentswe he said that the meeting was fluid without any hitches.

“We conduct these elections after every three years in accordance within the parameters of the party’s constitution. This is to give our members a platform to reflect their feelings in regard to their leaders. The party does not believe in imposing people in its structures, instead branches must dictate their preferred candidates through this process.

In this process we don’t have a sacred cow. If I, as chairperson, am no longer preferred for one reason or another this process must give that voice and let other members take the responsibility. The whole idea is to strengthen the party through membership participation in the electoral process”.

Mr Ohentswe, touted by his members as hard working comrade, retained his chairmanship with the rest of the top five members assigned to additional status. His deputy is Mr Olebogeng Gaobodiwe who replaced Mr Olebogeng Leserwane. The regional secretary is Mr Andrew Segano who was rewarded for his unrelenting activism in the party. His deputy is Mr Henry Chweu, the firebrand councillor at Ga-Segonyana local municipality known for calling a spade a spade in council meetings. The new treasurer is Ms Kebolelng Setlhodi.

It was after the conference that the ousted and capricious Olebogeng Leserwane went out to the social media and vented out his outrage by posting the quoted vitriolic excerpt, “Yes arranged leadership. Membership of EFF and Ground Forces I love EFF with all my heart. Please let me notify you guys that I will never be led by a fraudster as I will be handing over my resignation as a member of EFF also as councillor but won’t stop assisting my people on the ground. Thanks to fighters who had hope in me and leadership let’s meet in future. From Leserwane”.
