MEC stopped at roadblock

A joint venture between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and various government departments resulted in a roadblock where a high-ranking politician was also stopped in order to comply with Operation Festive which kicked off on Tuesday 08 December 2020.

Under the command of District Commissioner Brigadier John Besnaar, members of the SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Labour, Transnet and a sponsorship by Kolomela mine as part of Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore conducted various roadblocks in and around Postmasburg.

This operation marked the start of Operation Festive, as part of the national operation over the festive season by the SAPS and provincial law enforcement agencies. SAPS Postmasburg’s Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Dries Witbooi and his team stopped vehicles to make sure motorists adhered to all traffic regulations.

To proof adherence, the MEC of Social Development, Ntobeka Vilakazi, was also stopped at the roadblock and instructed to get out of the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and the driver had to present his driving license.

Various roadblocks will be conducted during the festive season in the broader Tsantsabane as part of a national instruction.

The Mayor of Tsantsabane, Councillor Mpho Mashila, also attended the roadblock to hand out gift packs to motorists wishing them well for the festive season.
