Media tour of water reticulation and housing projects

The media from all over the province was taken on a tour of important government projects around Kuruman town on December 01, 2020.
The projects by the Department of Human Settlement and Water Resources, in partnership with Ga-Segonyana local municipality, witnessed a new borehole with two aerial tanks in Kagung village that caters for about 1400 households .
The reservoir caters for the ever-growing population in the area, demanding smooth water supply in the area. Sedibeng Water has taken over from the department the operation and maintenance of the water station.
In Wrenchville, the team visited the three hundred houses being built by the department COGHSTA, also in partnership with the local municipality.
So far 132 houses have been handed over to the beneficiaries with eighteen more houses being handed over to the beneficiaries by end of December 2020.
The smooth process of the project was however disrupted by the discovery of a sinkhole in the area. Engineers are busy trying to determine the extent of the affected area on the construction site before the project can continue in earnest. In total, construction of 244 houses shall be achieved as the other part of the site was found to be too dolomitic to construct houses.
Alongside the housing project, the greening challenge was introduced to beneficiaries where new residents were encouraged to plant vegetables and trees to beautify their surroundings and to learn to self-sustain by practicing simplified horticulture.
The upgrading of internal water supplies in Wrenchville and Kuruman to replace the obsolete plastic and steel pipes underground was another testimony that the stakeholders took cognisance to ensure that there was fluidity in the supplies, as well as reduced or zero leakages that were becoming an unavoidable threat.
The media team was accompanied by officials from the Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Estate Agency Affairs Board, Housing Development Agency, National Home Builders Registration Council and the local leadership that included the Ga-Segonyana municipal manager Mr Martin Tsatsimpe.
