Mine’s relief program enhances town
The Ga-Segonyana local municipality has kept buoyant relations with its partners in the development of the town.
This was further cemented by the mayor of the municipality councilor Neo George Masegela on November 26, 2020 when he hosted officials from Assmang Black Rock Operations. He said that the partnership has become more of a father with his sons and daughters project, ie of symbiotic nature.
The mine has injected a three-month two-million-rand program with a two-tier initiative aimed at cleaning the town and its surrounding suburbs, namely Wrenchville and Mothibistad.
As the old saying goes, “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” the mine has deemed it fit to ensure that Kuruman boasts an attractive look during this festive season. Two, cleanliness alone is fractious when the surrounding community cannot make ends meet. As a result, the considerate mining house decided to shoot two birds with one stone. This is, in a way, social and economic relief to the unemployed communities around, targeting specifically the youths and women.
The program will run from December 01, 2020 to February 28, 2020.
In his brief, unpacking the pledges, the supply chain manager of the mine, Mr Lourence van Heerden, said that Covid-19 took every sector by surprise, including individual families. However, the mine felt the ripple effect was deeper to the community, hence it came up with a relief program that could make a difference, laden with a smile.
Another project, regarding strengthening of electrical power supplies, has been bankrolled by the mine, to ensure that there is stability of poles, replacing the old poles and earthing.
New underground cable replacements, from the Moffat Mission substation to Poolman Street, is another project earmarked for rapid implementation.
Internal roads also got a facelift during this period, to ensure safety for commuting residents and visitors during this period.
The mine, in tandem with its enterprise development drive, will appoint a contractor with the requisite know-how to repair the surfaces, signage and road markings.
