Musician nominated for two Northern Cape awards ceremonies
Tebogo Patrick Plaatjie popularly known as Keen Tip (his stage name), was born on 11 March 1997 in a small township of Boichoko in Postmasburg in the Northern Cape.
Tip started rapping at the age of 11. He was inspired by his cousin Mojalefa Plaatjie, who was only 13 years old at the time. Tip grew up in the mainstream world listening to the likes of Lil Wayne and other popular overseas rappers. As his love for music grew, he joined a music record label called New Generation. It led to him recording his first song at age 13. He later stopped doing modern rap when he moved to Hartswater in 2013 and started listening to underground emcees like Immortal Technique, K-Rino and Canibus.
Tip then joined a crew named The Bees. They made good music together and that’s when Tip recorded an album (Idea of The Unknown). The album was released in June 2014. A while after that he joined another crew called Black Marcle previously known as Fire Flame. He recorded two mixtapes (Dlala Die Numba and Devil Knows) with the crew. In 2015 they went on to record two of their hottest mixtapes of all time (Kicks Impact and Rewriting History). Followed by Tip’s hottest mixtape called Internal Skeleton featuring Chizzy. And another one called The Resurrection where he features his cousin Mojalefa, popularly known as Lil J.
Two years down the line as his music career continued to bloom, Tip’s music video H4M featuring MD got approved on RisingHype.com a big blog for upcoming rappers in the UK. In 2018 he shared a stage with big names like Holly Rey, Kaylow, Moskow, DJ Finzo, Sweet n Short, and Lection. In 2019 he opened his own record label now called MTR which stands for Mr Tip Records. This year (2020) Keen Tip has been busy releasing a lot of singles to promote his upcoming album Life After Matric which he released in April. In his burning desire and passion for music, he saw himself embarking on a journey of another popular and loved genre, Amapiano. In which he released his latest EP’s I Love Amapiano and Road2Lam.
In 2020 Keen Tip was nominated for two awards ceremonies Northern Cape Hip-Hop (Best newcomer and Hustler of the year) and GAMA Awards (Best New Comer). his song Kasi to Kasi was featured in a local movie called Breek Die Stilte that played on channel 263. His latest song Growing up featuring Mlakho Eh’MK got featured as a soundtrack in another local film shot by Tshepo Phillips called Ma Dijo which will be out soon
Keen Tip also got an article in SA Hip-Hop News and SA Hip-Hop Weekly which are followed by more than 300 000 people in South Africa.
