Muslim society celebrate birth of Muhammed
Victor Mulangisi
Again, it was a great day in Kuruman in solidarity with different parts of the world where people of Islamic faith congregated in celebrating the birth of their great religious leader, Prophet Muhammed.
Fully sanctioned by the police, the celebrations were punctuated by a number of activities premised by a celebratory march from Ford along Church Street, Beare Street then Voortrekker towards the bus rank and finally joined Livingston Street at the bus rank where thanks giving prayers were later presented opposite Absa bank. About hundred followers sang, prayed and chanted slogans of praise of the good work of the prophet.
An interview with one of the avid followers of the prophet had this to say, “We are celebrating the birthday of prophet Muhammed who is believed to be the last prophet and in the same class with Jesus, Abraham and Moses in the Christian faith. All these religious giants are the sons from one God that all humankind believes in.
Born in Saudi Arabia as the son of Abdulla, Muhammed was the last messenger after Jesus. Apart from celebrating his good works it is also the time to teach children about the importance to do good things before God. In our mosque we promote unity through various teachings, the basic principles to make us acceptable by God. It is this messenger who further brought emphasis that we should live in peace and have respect for one another.
Whether Muslim or Christian, God wants us promote love, peace and tolerance. The Koran and the Bible are in convergence in their teachings, love one another, do not kill, love your neighbour, do not steal and obey your parents to have more days. These rules come from one God served by Muhammed, Moses and Jesus”.
