Pastor called for greatness

A child from the Wrenchville community in Kuruman with a lack of role models who made her mark as a model and soon to be ordained as a pastor has proven that her circumstances will not capture her vision.

At a young age, Nedien Andrews always looked at models in magazines and always dreamed of making her debut on the catwalk. With a strong religious base and a strict grandmother in the AFM church, her desire to become a model was always out of her reach.

Her modelling career kicked off after entering the Miss Northern Cape pageant and she won the title. The rest is history.

Nedien completed her Theological studies. For a child from Wrenchville, it is indeed a great achievement where young people’s dreams and vision are swallowed by alcohol and wrong decisions. She admits it was not an easy road and is grateful for the support of Pastor Iehn Phillander at AFM Kandelaar in Wrenchville and pastor Willie Brooks from the Chaplain Services in the SAPS. Great men in the Gospel who have contributed to her formation as a young pastor in a ministry dominated primarily by men.

Nedien Andrews will be ordained as pastor Andrews at AFM Kandelaar later in 2021 at a congregation already served by Pastor Phillander for the past 20 years. Nedien grew under the strong hand of her grandmother who had already passed away and later ended up under the remarkable leadership of Pastors Phillander and Brooks in whom she sees mentors and role models. After her ordination as a pastor, she can build on her grandmother’s values that laid her AFM foundation and walk in the tracks of a giant such as Pastor Phillander who is currently the regional chairperson of twenty congregations in the bigger AFM Church.

A model becoming a pastor is two diverse worlds, but Nedien succeeds in her attempt to let her vision materialise in her community with a lack of role models. Indeed, called for greatness. Let us watch Nedien Andrews, the founder of IDE Modelling School with an expectation of a young girl nurturing her dreams and her vision now driven by many other young people in the Northern Cape.
