Personal trainer takes fitness to another level

On 12 November 2020 an enthusiastic personal trainer opened his first class to the public at the Siyathemba LoveLife Youth Centre. Unfortunately, due to the bad, windy and rain weather that occurred just before the scheduled class, the class could not take place and had to be postponed

Instead Edward Mutero, a local bodybuilder in Kathu, shared his knowledge and expertise with the community about fitness and that eating healthy food is not only for those who exercise, but also for people who want to maintain a healthy lifestyle free from diseases.

He explained that a person who practises eating healthy foods is stronger and healthier than a person who exercises every day.

Numerous studies have proofed that exercise helps depression and cultivates a healthier state of mind. There are many views as to how exercise helps people with depression.

Exercise may block negative thoughts or distract a person from daily worries. Exercising with others provides an opportunity for increased social contact. Increased fitness may lift one’s mood and improve one’s sleep patterns.  Exercise may also change levels of chemicals in one’s brain, such as serotonin, endorphins and stress hormones.

Physical activity or exercise can improve one’s health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve one’s quality of life. A minimum of 30 minutes a day can allow one to enjoy these benefits.

Eating healthy is the only way to fight any disease, ask any doctor.  Eating healthy or dieting does not mean starving oneself.

As a bodybuilder Edward won several accolades since 2011 and he is proud that he has managed to recruit more than 10 bodybuilders.

“I want to give a special thanks to all those who attended the event, you are all healthy now. The management of Love Life Centre, thanks to you guys. Lastly, I want to motivate young people, I want to groom them while they are still young, I want to take them out of the streets, I want to fight crime,” concluded Edward Mutero.
