SIOC-cdt launches Re a Fola mobile clinic
20 October 2020
SIOC-cdt, in partnership with the Northern Cape Department of Health (NCDoH), on 07 October 2020 launched the much needed Re a Fola mobile clinic in Penryn village, Joe Morolong local municipality.
SIOC-cdt CEO Vusani Malie, joined by the NCDoH’s Head of Department Dr Dion Theys, the Joe Morolong Mayor Councillor Dineo Leutlwetse and the Speaker Councillor Violet Jordan, as well and tribal authority representatives, officially cut the ribbon to open this mobile clinic for community usage.
This mobile bus clinic will be rendering primary health care services to the community of the JTG district and the Tsantsabane municipality from October 2020 to March 2021. The primary health care services will be implemented according to the national Department of Health’s policies and guidelines. Whereas medication, consumables, nursing personnel, councillors and data captures will be provided by the NCDoH, sessional medical professionals (general practitioners, dentists, audiologists and optometrists) will be sponsored by SIOC-cdt. These medical professionals will render services three times a week for the duration of the project. SIOC-cdt will also be sponsoring spectacles for the optometry patients in need.
The launch was specifically held in Penryn to give hope and to address severe health care challenges faced by this community as they had not received medical services for the past seven months. The mobile clinic will be stationed in Penryn from Monday to Friday for the whole month of October 2020 and will then move to other areas of JTG district and Tsantsabane for the remaining months of the project’s duration.
The objective of this project, amongst others, is to provide quality health care services to remote parts of the JTG district and Tsantsabane beneficiary communities, especially in areas that are severely impacted.
“SIOC-cdt believes that community health and wellbeing is important and an enabler to effective and sustainable employability and entrepreneurship. A healthy community has endless possibilities. In addition, we believe in an inclusive community that has equal chances of participation in economic activities and so we are committed to ensure support for the vulnerable,” said SIOC-cdt CEO Mr Vusani.
“Through the leadership of the JTG district’s Department of Health and the province we agreed that the situation in Penryn is dire and that something had to be done immediately. Deployment of this mobile clinic is in addition to the huge contributions we are currently making to the Department of Health to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. We have so far provided PPE, consumables and equipment, as well as sponsorship to augment staffing in the district to increase government’s capacity to care for those affected by the pandemic,” said Mr Malie.
