Recently, Anglo American Kumba Iron Ore’s Kolomela mine hosted engagement sessions with local business forums, farmers and municipal management, to strengthen the message of Kolomela’s commitment to remain a responsible corporate citizen by means of responsible business practices and by remaining transparent in engagements when dealing with stakeholders and key issues.
Kolomela mine acknowledges the meaningful contribution by business towards alleviating social challenges, such as unemployment by creating job opportunities for the local communities.
At one of the sessions, during a presentation by the Tsantsabane Local Business Forum, various business forums were introduced along with their capabilities and the work they are doing within the communities. At this engagement session, the forum took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank the Kumba Iron Ore’s CEO, Themba Mkhwanazi, for the good work he has done in empowering local businesses thus far.
The Kumba delegation and the CEO were taken out on a tour to one of the local business in the Boichoko community, where they were afforded the opportunity to see how the small businesses operated.
Part of the stakeholder engagement was also to meet and greet local farmers and to engage with them on a social level. At the meet and greet session held at Soetfontein, one of the farmers, Jim Bredenkamp, expressed the local farmers’ gratitude for meeting with the CEO. He also acknowledged the good relationship farmers have with Kolomela mine.
The stakeholder engagement sessions are to benefit future generations and to build a legacy they can appreciate.
The stakeholder engagement session concluded in a dialogue with the local municipality management engagement.
