On 18 April 2026, the Wrenchville II team played its first Van Druten Rugby League match against Deben Rugby Club at the Wrenchville Stadium.
The Wrenchville rugby team showed off their brand-new blue and white jerseys, sponsored by Country Hotels and in spite of a bit of nervousness on both sides, the game had a great start with Seandee Corner from the Wrenchville team scoring his first try within the first 10 minutes of the game and also converting his own try, putting the Wrenchville team in the lead by seven points. Johan Casper, also from the Wrenchville team then scored the second try, which was also successfully converted by Seandee Corner, adding another seven points to their lead.
The Deben team fought back tooth and nail, scoring five converted tries and two penalties, taking the game with a final score of 39 – 34. In total, Johan Casper and Dewainne Darrel Dadda each scored two tries and Sean Corner one try for the Wrenchville team. Three conversions and one penalty was taken by Seandee Corner.
The main event of the day then followed with the Wrenchville I rugby team taking on the Postmasburg II team. Within 5 minutes Wrenchville`s fly–half, Byron La- Meyer scored a penalty conversion, but the Postmasburg II team answered with a penalty try 10 minutes later. The match came alight with Boitsepho Esau from the Wrenchville team scoring another try in the first half, with the Postmasburg team answering with a penalty 10 minutes before half time. Byron La–Meyer then left the crowd breathless with an astonishing try just before half-time, making the score 20-10 in favour of the Wrenchville Kudus.
During the second half Zachary Caper and Alridge Sterling from the Kudus both scored a try after which Postmasburg suprised everyone with two converted tries and two penalties, bringing the final score to 35-30 in favour of the Kudus.
Wrenchvill team’s head coach, Dowainne Casper and his assistant coach, Armando Lubbe, applauded their players for their grit and perseverance. The Man of the match award was shared by Byron La–Meyer and Alridge Sterling and they both received an amount of R1000 from a proud supporter Elvin Pearson.
