The streets of Cape Town were painted in the colours of determination and triumph on 11 April 2026 as the 56km Totalsports Two Oceans Ultra Marathon witnessed a historic performance from Arthur Jantjies, a name that has become synonymous with excellence within the Sesheng Athletic club (AC) and the entire Northern Cape province.
Arthur, a small-town boy originally from Hope Town, has officially put his hometown on the global running map. In a race that tested the limits of the world’s elite, Arthur crossed the finish line in an incredible time of 3:09:25, claiming the title of the 2026 Two Oceans Ultra Marathon Champion.
His victory was no small feat. Arthur showed immense tactical brilliance and physical strength, staying in the lead pack and eventually surging ahead in the final kilometers. He beat formidable competition, including the 2024 champion Joseph Seutloali and his close rival Onalenna Khonkhobe, whom he overtook in a thrilling finish to win by a decisive 35 seconds.
While Arthur represented Pan African Resources in this year’s Ultra Marathon, his roots and heart remain deeply connected to the Sesheng AC family. He was the winner of the first edition of the Sesheng AC Half Marathon in 2025. His journey from this inaugural race in Kathu to the pinnacle of South African ultra-running is an inspiration to every member of the club.
Arthur wasn’t the only one flying the Northern Cape flag high. A huge congratulations to all Sesheng Athletic Club members who took part in this year’s Two Oceans Marathon, across both the 56km Ultra and the 21.1km Half Marathon. Whether chasing a personal best, a milestone medal or simply the joy of completing “the world’s most beautiful marathon,” their perseverance embodies the spirit of the Sesheng AC.
Well done to every member who laced up their shoes and represented the Northern Cape in Cape Town.
