The non-profit organisation (NPO), Marang Career Information Centre from Kuruman is currently implementing the Karabelo Gender Based Violence and Femicide Prevention Response Programme within the Joe Morolong Local Municipal areas.
A successful dialogue was held on 9 April in Bothitong Village targeting out of school youth. The dialogue focused on the Pillar 5 of the National Gender Based Violence Strategic plan, namely Economic Power. Poverty and unemployment are usually flagged as contributing factors for gender-based violence.
Marang Career Information Centre uses the ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) methodology to ignite the potential within young people. This NPO
believes everybody has a potential that just need to be unleashed, transformed and recognised. During the dialogue young people highlighted that they would like to start their own businesses and cooperatives in order to survive the odds and better their lives while some want to study further.
